Kaanthi
On Sunday, October 11th, 2009 AMIGOS team conducted the event “Kaanthi” at Samarthanam. 60 students were there in total who included visually challenged and other orphans.
We started with first introducing ourselves to them and all the students introduced themselves. Most of the students are in PUC and few in Degree.
Along with their names and what they were studying we asked them to tell their ambition in life. Their dreams are truly amazing. Ranging from lawyers, teachers, s/w engg, and MBAs, there were many who wanted to be singer’s n music directors too!!!
Followed by the introduction, we had singing competition. 15 of them sang.
They are blessed with such melodious voices and their spirit is truly amazing.
To be frank, we started up with a notion that many students may not turn up participating. But later, we had a fear if we could accommodate everyone!!!
They showed so much enthusiasm in participating.
Also few others participated in Mono Acting. 2 of them enacted scenes from Mahabharatha.
It was truly brilliant. Their confidence, dialogue delivery was jus too good
the students overwhelmed us by their sportiveness and energy...
In fact they ragged us to some extent They made us sing
Cake Cutting was done by the students itself.
Certificates were given to all the participants and prizes were given to few of the chosen.
We closed by distributing the sweets, choclates n chips to them.
Donations made to SAMARTHANAM
1. 2 Ceiling Fans
2. 4 large stainless steel vessels
3. 2 large Kadais
4. 1 cutlery set
Overall, this day will undoubtebly remain the most memorable to all those present today. And the whole credit goes to those lively students who made our day!!!

Operation Floods - 2
On 10th October, 2009 AMIGOS team along with another group ‘Friends in deedz’, a total of 25 members went to a village called Gadda Baswapuram (which is in Veepanagandla (mandal), Kollapur (Taluk), Mahaboobnagar (dist). The whole village vanished including the houses and trees due to floods. All the villagers took the shelter of a rice mill nearby where people from 2 other villages have already taken the shelter.
Team has met the village head last week and found out what are the immediate requirements to restore the village. We have been informed that they need some clothes, blankets, towels, utensils and groceries for up to 200 families. Team has collected funds nearly 2.15 lacks and we have gathered all the necessary household items needed. 200 bags with following items were packed for the village.
Items given to each family (200 families).
10 Kg Rice
500 gm Sugar
500 gm Tamarind
2 Kg pulses
1 New Saree
1 New Dothi
1 New Towel
1 Steel Glass
1 Bath Soap
1 Detergent Soap
500 gms Detergent Surf
1 Rice Bowl with Plate
1 Curry Bowl with Plate
1 Mosquito Coil Packet
1 Spoon
1 Kg Salt
250 gms Chilli Powder
250 gms Milk Powder
100 gms Tea Powder
1 ltr cooking Flower Oil
1 Blanket
Apart from this we have given Buns, Water Packets, Biscuits and some medicines.
We started around 9 in the morning and reached the place around 3 in the afternoon. Have distributed the bags to the villagers. We could see the happiness in their eyes while receiving the bags. Few other associations and volunteers have come to the same place to help out the people with the basic requirements and some household items.
One thing we all observed is no matter how much one contributes it would take months to restore their lives and go back to their routine work, and nothing could replace what they lost in the floods.
